Discount Calculator instantly works out the final price after a discount, how much you save, and the effective discount percentage. Enter the original price and the discount percentage to see the sale price and your savings; or work backwards to find the original price or the discount percent from the numbers you know. It also handles successive discounts (e.g. "extra 10% off the already 40% off" sales) — a common trap where the combined discount is less than it looks. Useful for shoppers checking deals, and for sellers pricing products.
Sale price = original price × (1 − discount/100), and savings = original price − sale price. To find a discount percent from two prices: discount% = (1 − sale/original) × 100. For successive discounts, each is applied to the running price in turn — two 20% discounts give 0.8 × 0.8 = 0.64, i.e. a 36% total reduction, not 40%. Scales to any price: final price = original × (1 − discount ÷ 100). For a ₹5,000 item at 30%, that's ₹5,000 × 0.70 = ₹3,500.
The most common shopping trap is stacked discounts. A "40% off, then extra 20% off" deal is not 60% off — the second discount applies to the already-reduced price. On a ₹2,000 item: 40% off makes it ₹1,200, then 20% off that makes it ₹960 — a real discount of 52%, not 60%. Always apply successive discounts one after another, which is exactly what this calculator does when you enter more than one.
The tool works both ways. See a "₹1,500, was ₹2,000" tag and want to know the discount? It's (1 − 1500 ÷ 2000) × 100 = 25% off. Or know the sale price and the discount and want the original? Divide: a ₹1,400 item at 30% off was ₹1,400 ÷ 0.70 = ₹2,000. Handy for checking whether a "sale" is genuine or the "original price" was inflated first.
In India, GST is charged on the discounted price, not the original — so the order matters for the final bill. Discount first, then apply GST to what's left. A ₹2,000 item at 20% off is ₹1,600; add 18% GST and you pay ₹1,888. Use this calculator for the discount, then the GST calculator on the reduced amount to get the exact figure at checkout.
Sale Price = Original Price × (1 − Discount% ÷ 100). Example: a ₹2,000 shirt with 30% off = ₹2,000 × (1 − 0.30) = ₹1,400. You save ₹600.
Discount % = [(Original Price − Sale Price) ÷ Original Price] × 100. Example: item was ₹500 and you paid ₹375 → [(500 − 375) ÷ 500] × 100 = 25% off.
