Clacify's Readability Score tool analyses your text using the Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease score (0–100, higher is easier), Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level (US school grade), Gunning Fog Index, and Automated Readability Index (ARI). Paste your content to instantly see which reading level it targets. For general web content, aim for a Flesch score of 60–70 (grade 7–8). News articles and marketing copy should score above 60; legal and technical documents often score 20–40.
Flesch-Kincaid scores range from 0 (very difficult) to 100 (very easy). Scores 60–70 are ideal for general web content (readable by most adults). Scores above 80 are for simple content like children's books. Scores below 30 are professional/academic level. Most successful blog posts and marketing copy score between 60–75.
Use shorter sentences (15–20 words average). Use simpler, everyday words instead of complex vocabulary. Break up long paragraphs into smaller ones. Use bullet points and headers. Avoid passive voice. The Hemingway App and Clacify's Readability Score both help identify difficult sentences highlighted for revision.
