The Western sun sign is determined by matching your birth date to the standard tropical zodiac date ranges (e.g. Aries is 21 March – 19 April). The Indian rashi is based on the sidereal system, which differs from the Western tropical system by roughly 23–24 degrees of precession, so it can fall in the previous sign. The tool maps your date to both systems and shows each sign's associated element, ruling planet, and traits. All computation is local to your browser.

A common surprise for Indians: your Western sun sign and your Vedic rashi are often different. The table above is the Western system. In Indian (Vedic) astrology the sign that matters most is the moon sign — your Chandra rashi — which depends on the exact position of the Moon at your birth, so it needs your birth time and place, not just the date. Two people born on the same day can have different rashis. This tool gives the date-based sun sign in both naming systems; a full Vedic rashi needs a birth chart.
Western astrology is "tropical" — tied to the seasons and the spring equinox. Vedic astrology is "sidereal" — tied to the actual positions of the constellations, which have shifted by roughly 24 degrees over the centuries (a gap called the ayanamsa). That's why a sidereal sun sign usually lands about 23–24 days later than the tropical one, so many people are "one sign earlier" in the Vedic reckoning.
